The Name and the Back Story of Run With It Quilts
Your special quilt will be handled from start to finish by the owner and sole employee of Run With It Quilts, Cheryl Murdock, an experienced quilter and until quilting took over; a long distance runner.
Cheryl made her first quilt in 1976 during the start of the quilting revival during the nation's bicentennial. She owned a crafts and consignment business for several years in Kalispell, Montana and later opened; along with a talented teacher/customer (Joan); a full service quilt shop called the Quilt Gallery. In 1985 Cheryl and her family moved to the Ketchikan, Alaska area and she sold her partnership to Joan. After over 30 years in business, Joan sold the business which still exists to this day. Tired of the snow and cold Montana winters, in 1991 Cheryl and her children moved to Pensacola, FL. She went back to school to study graphic design at the local junior college and then graduating with a degree in graphic design from Platt College in Denver, CO. She also started running!
Oddly enough Cheryl's quilt shop partner was a runner. While attending Quilt Market in Houston, Joan would often get up to run every morning while Cheryl stayed in bed. Every year Joan would challenge everyone to run in the Bloomsday Run in Spokane so after much convincing Cheryl attempted running. Not until Cheryl moved to Florida did she seriously start running beginning with 5K's, a few 10K's and then a half marathon. She ran her first marathon at the first Walt Disney World Marathon in January 1994 and was bit by the marathon bug and the love of traveling. At the end of 2020, Cheryl had competed 371 full marathons. Now days, the quilting "hobby" turned "business" keeps her home most of the year.
For several years Cheryl set sewing aside, instead started her own graphic design business, working for a large commercial printer and then graphic designer for a local marine parts manufacturer. She picked quilting up again when she became acquainted with a quilt notions manufacturer in Pensacola and started traveling to guilt shows and demonstrating their products. After accumulating several shirts and being asked if she made T-shirt quilts Cheryl decided to make one for herself as an experiment Finding making the T-shirt quilts not only reduced the size of her own stack, and seeing the joy and memories they brought she began making quilts for others. Although there were a few quilts beforehand, Run With It Quilts came onto being in June of 2015. By the end of that year 21 quilt owners were letting their memories keep them warm. In 2016 hundreds of t-shirts found their way out of boxes, closets, drawers, under beds , drawers, basement, attics and storage bins to be made into 51 quilts, including a stuffed pig made from a running shirt. Averaging over 50 quilts a year (even through the Covid 19 shut downs) by the end of 2021, over 300 quilts were now keeping memories fresh and their owners warm!
Between custom t-shirt quilt orders, Cheryl enjoys making and selling her creations through social media and craft shows. You can see what she currently has for sale on her FaceBook Page - Run With It T-Shirt Memory Quilts.
