Your quilt will be completely machine wash and dryable!
Don't be afraid to use it and love it
In addition to your shirts (cotton, tech fabric, sweatshirts, jackets, tank/singlets- if we can get a needle through it it will work) all other fabrics unless requested will be of quality 100% cotton fabric. Flannel fabric of 100% cotton may also be used on the quilt if you so choose.
The batting used between the quilt top and backing will be of either 80% cotton/20% poster or 60% cotton/40% polyester. Although this is not a thick batting it is surprisingly warm in the winter yet cool in the summer. Unlike the thick battings of the past, these two battings are the most commonly used in today's machine quilted quilts.
Your quilt will be machine quilted on an APQS "Lennie" long-arm quilting machine. Quilting is done using an invisible thread on the top and a coordinating thread on the back. Quilting is done in a meandering free motion pattern. The close quilting will keep you quilt in perfect shape through many years of use numerous launderings.
Upon receiving your shirts, each shirt will be cut into oversized squares and backed with a thin iron on interfacing. The interfacing does not make the shirts stiff, but gives it the stability needed to cut the shirts when accurately cut to the final 15.5" square. Most shirt designs will accommodate the 15" finished sized block without loosing the graphic. Some companies cut 12" blocks resulting in giving up parts of the shirt design - not desirable at all except with children's or infant's shirts. Additional fabric will be added to shirts with scooped necks, V-necks, tank/ singlets or shirts and jackets with zippers. Every effort is made to insure the integrity of each and every shirt.
We will let you know when your shirts arrive and keep you updated along with an expected completion date throughout the process.
Choosing additional fabrics to complement your shirts Based on the colors of your shirts certain fabrics will be suggested, but the final selection is left up to you! Our prices include everything to complete a quilt you can be proud of. Several fabrics that have worked well with many quilts are kept on hand and we offer several color options. Special order prints (college or pro teams, sports or activities) are available at an additional cost. We also have a selection of patriotic prints. Not all quilt companies include a border on their quilts. At Run With It Quilts your quilt top will be framed with one narrow inside border and an additional 3 -4" outside border
Prepare your shirts by thoroughly washing them (no heavy fragrances, smoke or animal fur). Please do not add fabric softener. (The iron on interfacing does not like it!) Inspect them for obvious stains or wear although sometimes a stain or tear adds to the story behind the shirt! Just make a note of it taped or pinned to the shirt.
If you want the shirts laid out into a particular order, please number each shirt and tag it with a pinned on note. Otherwise your shirts will be laid out in the most pleasing arrangement possible noting placement of colors and eye flow.
Fronts, backs, both? We will use the front of the shirt or the side with the most prominent graphic unless directed.
Small logos, pockets or patches? More than one shirt can be combined into a single square. Unless you have several combined squares there will be no additional charge. We will always let you know before proceeding.
